In its days the GS was a fairly succesfull rallycar. It has participated in many rallys and has even won a few. Taken the fact that most competitors where cars with considerably bigger engines, the GS has preformed well.
In 1977 certainly one of the most remarkable achievements was made. A GS finished first in the south african touringcar championship. In the later 80's and 90's GSs and GSAs where fairly popular rally cars, since they where reliable, easy to maintain and solid build.

In 1976 Andre Costa, a French Journalist took a trip of over 16.000kms in a GS Break from Paris to Kaboul (Afghanistan).
The trip included 1200km through the rough inlands of Afghanistan. The GS didn't suffer from any severe problems. The drawings where mad by Afghanian Artists.
The car is now regulary at display at several occasions.
A nice story on a less serious note is the following. During the Rally of South America in 1979, two Chilian rally drivers in a GS competited. Whilst driving the rally in the surroundings of the Argentinian town of Videma, they saw a bright light. Moments after they're GS was lifted by an UFO, that took the fuel out and then gently lowered them on the ground.
Leaving the drivers unharmed, but with an empty fueltank so that they were not able to complete the rally.
The Rally Le Citron Presse is a present rally for classic Citroëns. GSs can join in the fun also. Underneath a couple of pictures of GSs in this Rally.
